Medicare is Complicated. We make it Simple.
A quick and easy to understand guide to Medicare
Understanding the basics of Medicare
To fully understand all aspects of Medicare we would need a lot more than 1 page. Medicare is complex and continuously changing, but let's take a look at the basics as a starting point. Once you understand the major pieces then you're ready to take the next steps.
Medicare Basics
PART A
HOSPITAL
Medicare Part A is hospital insurance and helps cover costs if you are staying in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or hospice care.
PART B
MEDICAL
Medicare Part B is medical insurance that helps cover costs for doctor services, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, and other medical services.
PART D
PRESCRIPTIONS
Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage and helps cover costs for outpatient prescription drugs.
PART C
MEDICARE ADVANTAGE
Medicare Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, includes Medicare Parts A + B + D in one combined plan.
Selecting Your Medicare Plan
A basic overview of the typical consideration process
Medicare Part A & B
Many people start here and look at Medicare Part A (Hospital) and Medicare Part B (Medical) Plans to determine which of these plans are needed, often both. When combined, Medicare Parts A & B offer a well-rounded insurance plan to cover standard doctor visits and unexpected emergencies.
Medicare Supplement
Medicare Supplement Plans, often called Medigaps, are designed to help fill "gaps" in Original Medicare and are sold by private companies. Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. A Medicare Supplement Insurance policy can help pay some of the remaining health care costs, such as copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Medicare Part D
Next, you will want to decide if you need prescription drug coverage. Medicare Part D, the prescription drug benefit, covers most outpatient self-administered prescription drugs.
Medicare Advantage Plan
Medicare Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, is an alternative to Medicare Part A,B,D. Medicare Advantage Plans combine Part A, Part B, Supplemental Plans, and often Part D, to create a combined single plan. Medicare Part C Plans are available through private insurance companies and act similar to an HMP or PPO, meaning you have a network of approved providers to consider.

Medicare FAQs

You’ve Got Questions - We’ve Got Answers
Who is eligible for Medicare?
Anyone ages 65 and older. Disabled persons of any age who meet certain criteria.
When can a candidate enroll for Medicare?
Anytime 3 months before or 3 months after turning 65 years of age. People over 65 can enroll or make changes to existing plans during the Annual Election Period from Oct. 15 - Dec. 7
Do I need Medicare Part A or Part B?
You may decide you need both. Part A acts like a type of hospital insurance (for example: accidents, emergencies, unexpected visits, etc.). Part B is similar to a traditional health insurance plan (example: doctor visits, tests, outpatient services, etc.). Most often candidates prefer both A and B. We are happy to explain in greater detail so please contact us.
What is a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Medicare Advantage plans provide at least all of the benefits of Original Medicare Parts A and B, while some Advantage plans offer even more.  Medicare Advantage is a more comprehensive alternative offered by private companies.
Does Medicare cover all my medical expenses?
No. Medicare may not cover everything which is why Medicare Supplements, also known as Medigap, are popular choices. Medicare Supplement plans are designed to cover gaps in coverage such as the costs of coinsurance, deductibles, and copays.
